Palmistry finger reader: your fingers and thumb, measured from a photo
Is your index finger longer than your ring finger? How wide does your thumb open? Take one photo and see it measured on your own hand, with what the classical books say.

Hold your fingers the way they fall naturally: the gaps between them are part of the reading.
The first time, your browser downloads our hand finder: up to 20 MB, once. After that it starts at once.

How it works
- You take or choose a photoIt opens only in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded.
- A hand model finds 21 points on your handGoogle’s open MediaPipe hand model runs inside your browser and marks each knuckle, joint and fingertip.
- We measure, then look it up in the booksFinger lengths, the thumb’s angle and the spaces between the fingers are measured on your photo and matched to what Cheiro and other classical palmists wrote, with the source for each.
How to hold your hand for the photo
Hold your hand up, palm to the camera, open and relaxed. Don’t force the fingers apart or press them together: palmists read the way your hand opens naturally, and the gaps between the fingers are part of the reading.
Keep all five fingertips and your wrist in the frame, with the phone held flat above your palm. Keep your fingers straight; a bent finger looks shorter.
Take the photo in good light. If you get a surprising result, take a second photo: a small tilt can move the numbers by a few percent.
What palmistry reads in the fingers
- The finger namesThe index finger is Jupiter, the middle Saturn, the ring the Sun (Apollo) and the little finger Mercury; each takes on the qualities of the mount at its base.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part II, ch. III: The Fingers
- Index longer than ringRead as a drive to lead and take charge. A ring finger longer than the index is read as a love of beauty and a wish for recognition.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part II, ch. III: The Fingers
- The thumbIt should neither stand at a right angle nor lie close to the hand: the wider it opens, the more independence of will it is read as.Cheiro, Cheiro’s Language of the Hand (1900), Part I, ch. IX: The Thumb
- Gaps between the fingersWith the fingers open, a wide gap between the index and middle finger is read as independence of thought; between the ring and little finger, independence in action.Cheiro, Cheiro’s Language of the Hand (1900), Part I, ch. XI: The Fingers
What this tool can’t tell you
What palmistry can’t tell you. Palm lines can’t tell dates, how long you’ll live, your health, whether or when you’ll marry, how many children you’ll have, or how much money you’ll make.Palmistry is a tradition for reflection, not a science. Is palmistry real?
- These are readings from a tradition, not facts about you. No finger length predicts success, love, money or health.
- Our model marks joints, not skin creases, so the numbers are not ruler numbers. Index and ring within 4% of each other count as equal.
- How low or high the thumb is set is not measured: on a photo, the thumb’s base point moves as the thumb opens, so we can’t separate the two.
- The books disagree in places (for example on fingers of equal length, and on gaps between the fingers). Where they do, the result says so.
Questions about this tool
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo opens in this browser tab and the hand model runs on your phone. Only the model itself is downloaded from our site, once.
How do you decide long, short and wide?
Angles are measured directly: a thumb under 25° from the index finger is held close, from 60° wide open. For lengths and gaps we measured 485 open-palm photos from a public hand-photo set the same way and set the bands from them; the exact numbers are in the result.
Is this the finger ratio from science news (2D:4D)?
It is a similar measure of the index and ring fingers, but this tool gives the palmistry reading, not a scientific or medical one. Research on finger ratios is about large groups and says nothing reliable about one person.
Which hand should I photograph?
Palmists usually read the hand you write with. You can compare both with the left vs right tool.
