Life line finder: which life line do you have?
Pick the curve, length and marks of the line around your thumb and see what the books read in them. Length is never read as lifespan.
Traditional meanings from classical books, not AI. No photo needed.
Check it on your own palm
Our Android app traces your own lines on your photo and reads each one from the same books. The free web reading on this site opens soon.
How it works
- Look at the curveUse the hand you write with, in good light. Follow the line from between your thumb and index finger down.
- Pick its shape and marksCurve, length, start, end, depth and any break or fork. “Not sure” is always fine.
- Read what the books sayThe page matches your answers to the life line rules our app uses. Those rules carry no reading about health or lifespan. Nothing leaves your browser.
How to find your life line
The life line curves around the base of your thumb. It starts between your thumb and index finger and sweeps down towards the wrist.
Notice how wide the curve is, where it starts and ends, and whether it is one clean line. A short life line does not mean a short life: the books read this line for energy and how you meet change, never for years.
What palmistry says
Each life line form in a sentence, from the first book that reads it. None of them is about how long you will live.
- A wide curveAn outgoing, physically energetic presence — energy that reaches out toward people and activity.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. III: The Line of Life
- A straighter line close to the thumbEnergy that is held closer in — a quieter, less forceful physical presence.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. III: The Line of Life
- A long life lineA long, clearly traced life line — the form the classical books call normal, and read as steady vitality.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. III: The Line of Life
- A shorter life lineA shorter life line. Even the old books warn against reading its length as a count of years, and it is not read that way here.Leo Markun, What You Should Know About Palmistry (1927), the section on the Line of Life
- Starts under the index fingerA life steered by ambition from early on, together with good self-command.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. III: The Line of Life
- Starts low, inside near the thumbA quick temper that takes conscious effort to manage.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. III: The Line of Life
- Swings out towards the outer palm (Mount of the Moon)Restlessness and a strong wish to travel and see new places.Cheiro, Cheiro’s Language of the Hand (1900), Part II, ch. V: The Line of Life, pp. 79–85
- A deep, clearly marked life lineStamina that comes more from will and nerve than from sheer physical strength.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. III: The Line of Life
- A faint life lineA calmer, lower-key kind of energy — steady rather than forceful.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. XVII: Different Classes of Lines
- A break in the life lineA period of major change in the way life is lived.Leo Markun, What You Should Know About Palmistry (1927), the section on the Line of Life
- A chained life lineEnergy and purpose that come and go rather than holding steady.Cheiro, Palmistry for All (1916), Part I, ch. XVII: Different Classes of Lines
What this tool can’t tell you
What palmistry can’t tell you. Palm lines can’t tell dates, how long you’ll live, your health, whether or when you’ll marry, how many children you’ll have, or how much money you’ll make. The life line’s length is not read as lifespan; for health, talk to a doctor.Palmistry is a tradition for reflection, not a science. Is palmistry real?
- This tool gives no reading about health or how long you will live, whatever some old books claim. The app’s life line rules carry none either.
- A break or a short line often comes from the light, a crease or how the hand is held. Look again in good light before you pick.
- This tool reads the shape you pick, not a photo of your hand.

Questions about this tool
Does a short life line mean a short life?
No. A short life line is not read as a short life. Even the old books warn against reading its length as a count of years.
What does a break in my life line mean?
One book reads it as a period of major change in the way life is lived. Darker readings from other books are refused here.
Can this work out my age at an event?
No. We never work out ages or dates from the life line. No line can show them.
Which hand should I check?
Most palmists read the hand you write with. The which-hand quiz explains why in three taps.
Does this tool use AI or my photo?
No. There is no photo here and no AI. You pick what you see, and the page looks up the rules in your browser.
